Realistically, Alexis Thomas knows her best chance of making the United States Olympic Track and Field team is for the 2016 Games in Rio De Janerio, Brazil, and beyond.
  “But I never dreamed all this would’ve happened to me in the last month,” she said. “So I can dream of making the team this year and going to London. Stranger things have happened.”   Thomas, a junior at Ohio State from Wayne High School, will get a chance to fulfill that dream today as the U.S. Olympic Track and Field trials begin in a nine-day run in Oregon. Announcing the First OHRunners Ohio High School Hammer Championship May 25, 2012

The First OHRunners Ohio High School Hammer Championship will take place June 3rd, 2012 on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus in Delaware, Ohio.  The meet is designed for any athlete that is interested in throwing the hammer to get a chance compete, but to also showcase the elite hammer throwers that the state continues to produce.  Ohio currently has three athletes in the top 10 in the hammer throw in the nation. On the boys side Bryn Campbell (Canal Winchester) is ranked 5th with a throw of 209-2 and Darien Thornton (Wayne) is ranked 8th at 202-2.  For the girls, Erica King (Cuyahoga Falls) is ranked 9th with a throw of 158-11.

2012 Rod Russel Mason Invitational Preveiw Chip Dobson May 1, 2012

Much of this meet obviously depends on who runs what.... but regardless, this meet will be loaded, and some great battles will no doubt occur. In the 110 Hurdles, the matchup between Asad Maiden of Mason vs. Joey Wilkin of Westerville North and the ever-improving Leonard Staten of Wayne should be a great start. The 300s should also be fun with 8 athletes coming to the meet all under 41, and a few under 40.

2012 Wayne Invitational Preview Michael Fernandez Apr 22, 2012

With 41 schools and 17 conferences represented, the Wayne Invitational will have interest piqued across the state.  The meet has grown to one of the premeir events to showcase talented teams and individuals in Southwestern Ohio as well as across the state.  This meet will be a true balance of sprints, hurdles, distance and field events.  The team championship is truly up for grabs, for both boys and girls.

Week In Review: Bogle sets two OH #1, US Top 10 marks Jan 24, 2010

Wayne senior Demoye Bogle has been on fire the last two weeks.  This week Demoye won three events, the 60m hurdles, 60m dash and the 200m dash, and both of the 60m races are current OH #1 and US Top 10 times.  Last week Bogle posted an OH #1 and a US Top 10 time in the 55m dash on his way to winning four individual events.

While Virtual Meets are just a prediction of available statistics, this will be a good jumping off point for discussion of the upcoming Division and Conference meets.  Realize that the virtual meet feature allows teams to score more than two people in an event.

Ohio Girls in the Top 100 National Rankings Apr 20, 2009

Ohio Girls ranked in the top 100 nationally as of 4/19/09.  Ohio is well represented in the discus and the distance relays. Erin Pendleton has the second best discus throw, Taylor Burke has the third best High jump and Stephanie Morgan has the third best 1600m time.  Other top 10 performances include Alexis Thomas in the hammer throw, Mahagony Jones in the 200m Dash and the Magnificat 4x800m Team.

Another week down and another set of great marks on the performance lists.  Eight new Ohio leading marks were set this past weekend, two on the boys side and six on the ladies side.  Relays, Sprint and throws lead the way in the new Ohio leading marks.

Weekend Wrap-Up: January 23-25 Jan 26, 2009

Western Ohio Officials Recap Jan 4, 2009

Erik Kynard soars to a leap of 7'2.5" in the high jump to set the current US #1 mark in that event, and besting the rest of the US by over six inches. (Photo by Mike Fernandez) The opening meet of the 2009 Ohio High School Track and Field Season opened up with two very impressive performances in the field events.  Senior Erik Kynard (Rogers) recorded a US-leading high jump of 7'2.5", adding to his field house record from last year by an inch. In the Weight Throw, junior Justin Welch (Eastwood) threw the US #2 mark in the 25lbs. Weight Throw with a heave of 70'11.75".

WarriorElk Challange Collects Over 2,800 Books for Children's Medical Center May 14, 2008

The dual meet called the WarriorElk Challange: Race2Read Dual was a huge success in its first year. At final count the two teams came together to donate a whopping 2,862 books to the Children's Medical Center in Dayton Ohio. Following the success of the Volley For The Cure in the fall, head coaches, Mike Fernandez of Wayne and Matt Somerlot of Centerville, wanted to create a dual meet for their two teams to compete in that would also give back to the community in some way.

First Marietta HS Open Recap Jan 14, 2008

While the second official weekend of Indoor Track and Field only had one meet, some big performances were turned in at Marietta College in their first of four high school indoor meets this year. Kayla Caldwell goes big in the girls pole vault and we finally have leaders in the weight throw.
